It's our first birthday!

This month we celebrate the 1st birthday of our soft launch of the Greatest Good ecosystem.

We also welcomed Ziham Omar to the team. Ziham is an ecommerce specialist and will be helping our new for-purpose members onboard their listings, products, donations, events, jobs and collaborations - to help you do your greatest good by supporting these for-purpose organisations in ways that are meaningful to you.

We've been working behind the scenes to add more functionality and you can now search for events/courses, paid and volunteer jobs and collaboration opportunities by location (state and metropolitan/regional).

You can also do location searches when finding organisations that match your values - by switching between the grid view and map view.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve your experience, we love to hear your feedback, so please reach out to us if you'd like to share your thoughts. And a reminder, this is the newsletter for consumers. If you'd like to receive the newsletter for organisations instead of, or in addition to, this newsletter, please let us know

Thoughts

1_1

Indulging in a brief moment of reflection (as one year olds do...), we are older, wiser and ready to make even more impact. In many ways, the time has flown and we are extremely proud of what we've achieved. We are also especially grateful for your support. You've helped us to help purpose-driven organisations achieve so much.

But, there is so much more for us all to do on the never-ending journey of doing our greatest good. We are continually meeting amazing people and organisations making people, place and planet much better. This is an incredibly humble experience and we couldn't do it without you. By being community minded, making impactful purchasing and donations and taking a values-aligned approach to life, you are making social impacts and creating ripple effects for years to come.

We also couldn't do it without the support of our amazing advisory boards who help us see the wood for the trees and keep us focused on increasing our reach and impact.

We can't wait to see what the next year brings and look forward to having you along for the journey of doing the greatest good..... Oh, and if you still haven't got your pressies for the Mother figure in your life, don't forget to Shop Good, Gift Good, Do Good and Feel Good by buying from or donating to some of the amazing organisations doing good on the Greatest Good ecosystem!

Inspiration from our members

  • It wouldn't be a Greatest Good newsletter with the latest update on Hotel Etico... On Thursday night, they are participating in The Funding Network's 10th Anniversary Crowdfunding Event. If you've never been to one of these in real life or online, now's the time to check it out. It's always a very inspiring event.
  • Following the success of their first home, Woodville Alliance purchased a second Support Independent Living home that provide participants with a quality of life to live independently in their own homes
  • Monica Dawson from Creative Plus Business was interviewed in IF magazine
  • The Dolphin Research Institute raised more than $2,000 with the Mother's Day Auction, selling a wide range of products (we might have bought some...)
  • Pancare Foundation, the charity behind social enterprise Shope, released My Care Kit, to help people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

Regulatory updates (the sometimes boring, but always important stuff)

Privacy Act Review

The Government has released the Privacy Act Review Report (the Report) which sets out the response to various reform recommendations and proposals raised by the Privacy Act Review Discussion Paper released in October 2020.

The Report sets out the proposed reform agenda which will affect all sectors and all levels of the Australian economy. It is likely to be the most significant change to Australian Privacy laws since the introduction of the Australian Privacy Principles, especially if the current $3m annual turnover applicability is removed.

National Office for Cyber Security

The Government has announced it will appoint a senior official to a new National Office for Cyber Security to help mitigate the impact of the kinds of major incidents that struck Australian businesses in 2022.

The scope of their role includes:

  • provide strategy to the work across government, to ensure that the billions of dollars being invested in cyber security each year is strategic and appropriate
  • managing cyber incidents in a proper, seamless, strategic way across the Australian government

Other regulatory updates
You can more on these items and other regulatory updates in our monthly regulatory posted on the Blog page (use the Regulatory Updates filter). We can't provide legal advice but you can find significant proposed and upcoming legislative changes to discuss with your legal advisers

Volunteer and Paid Roles

Looking to find a role with more meaning and purpose? Or just have some extra time to volunteer for a cause you care about?

You can find a variety of paid and volunteer roles on the Volunteer/Work page. We update these roles at least weekly, so keep jumping on the Greatest Good ecosystem to find the role right for you.
