Making ethical decisions in an unethical world

The decisions we make are becoming more complex as there are multiple trade-offs to consider.

The facts and details are often blurred and the expectation of fast decision making often drives us to find short-cuts – all of which may lead to less than optimum choices.

Added to the contextual influences, we may have different ethical decision-making styles that, left unchallenged, may prevent us from considering the full picture.

Yet, a better understanding of these styles also allows us to consider others’ perspectives.

So how do we make decisions we can feel comfortable with and proud of?

Let’s come together to explore an ethical decision-making process to enable us to make better decisions.

Our speaker

Cris is the director of The Ethics Alliance, a community of organisations across sectors that works to collaboratively shape the future of business ethics. Cris is a member of the FPA Professional Designations Committee. She is also the director of The Banking & Finance Oath, a pledge of integrity and commitment that aims to increase consideration of stakeholders and decision-making accountability by financial service professionals. It is a program she helped execute, and still oversees.

Cris sits on the Rio Tinto Australian Advisory Group, holds a degree in psychology, and in another life, founded a Manhattan theatre company, casting agency, and production studio.
